Libra New Moon 9/10/26
The New Moon in Libra arrives at 17°, turning our attention toward relationships, reciprocity, compromise, and the delicate balance between what we owe to one another and what we owe to ourselves.
Libra teaches us how to meet in the middle.
But this New Moon asks us to look more closely at what we have been sacrificing in order to get there.
The Moon and Sun sit across the sky from retrograde Saturn in Aries, creating tension between me and we. Between maintaining the agreements we've made and acknowledging the person we've become since we made them.
Saturn can make the weight of responsibility difficult to ignore.
Perhaps there is a relationship you've been working very hard to hold together. Or a commitment you've continued because you once said you would. Maybe it's a role you've performed so reliably that nobody—including you—has stopped to ask whether it still fits.
Or maybe the lesson is different. Maybe you've become so protective of your independence that compromise feels threatening.
Either way, this New Moon isn't interested in harmony for harmony's sake. It's asking us for something more honest. Because real balance is created when everyone involved is allowed to tell the truth.
Jupiter in Leo offers a generous sextile to this New Moon. There is possibility here. There is Warmth.
Choosing what is true doesn't necessarily mean losing what you love. Sometimes honesty creates more room for joy, for creativity, for connection, for a relationship to become something neither person could have imagined while they were busy maintaining what it had always been.
But underneath all of this is another story.
On the very same day, Venus (the ruler of this Moon) squares Mars.
This brings an intense heat to this lunation. There is desire here. There is pride, longing, resentment, attraction, jealousy, anger, and all the complicated feelings we would prefer to leave outside when we're trying to make a reasonable decision.
Venus retrograde has already begun asking us to reconsider what and whom we value. And now Mars demands that we acknowledge what we want.
And those two things may not be the same.
You can love someone and need something to change. You can honour a commitment and realize its terms need to be renegotiated. You can want something intensely and still decide it isn't right for you.
You can choose yourself without making someone else the enemy.
And you can compromise without abandoning yourself.
This New Moon isn't about the perfect balance. Remember that if. you feel the discomfort of it all as it exposes the truth in ways that are tough to hold.
This New Moon begins a particularly important two-week passage.
Pluto stations direct. Venus retrograde meets Pluto before returning to Libra. The Sun confronts Chiron before entering Scorpio and meeting Venus in a powerful Cazimi. And Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio.
PHEW. There's a lot going on in the sky during this entire lunar cycle (4 weeks).
There's a reason we're doing the integration work now. Because on October 26, as we cross into the next lunar cycle, the astrology immediately intensifies: the Sun squares Pluto, Venus opposes Chiron, and Mercury squares Mars.
What we understand about ourselves during this New Moon will determine how we meet what comes next.
