What the Tide Brings Before the Pisces New Moon

We’re now a week away from the New Moon in Pisces (March 18), and the energetic atmosphere is beginning to soften and deepen.

The week leading up to a New Moon is a threshold space. It's a moment where one cycle is dissolving before the next begins. Pisces, as the final sign of the zodiac, amplifies this feeling. It carries themes of closure, forgiveness, surrender, and spiritual listening. You may feel more introspective than usual, more emotional, or more aware of what your soul is ready to release.

It’s a time when the waters of the psyche move quietly beneath the surface. But there are a few powerful currents shaping this moment that are important to name.

Jupiter turned direct yesterday in Cancer, and this is a significant shift. Jupiter has been retrograde for months, asking us to reconsider how we nurture ourselves and our emotional foundations. It was also highlighting our upbringing and ancestral roots, nudging us to address what doesn't feel right, what needs tending to or even a reckoning. With Jupiter now moving forward again, you may begin to feel that something internally is opening or gaining momentum again.

Because Jupiter is in Cancer (the sign of emotional intelligence, family, and belonging), the expansion happening now is not just external. It’s about the emotional structures of our lives. Where do we truly feel safe? Where do we belong? There may have been some difficult truths revealed during this retrograde about who "your people" are, who you consider family or community. This is especially true as the current Mercury Retrograde intensifies our relationships to boundaries, self-sacrifice and compassion towards others.

At the same time, another cosmic alignment is active this week. Black Moon Lilith is conjunct Satevis and opposes Tishtar. These ancient Iranian Royal Stars are the constant guardians of the sky, offering us the path towards Asha (Truth and Order). Whenever planets or important points configure with these fixed stars, there is something important being revealed to us.

And with Black Moon Lilith aspecting the Guardians of the Eastern and Western sky, we are experiencing a much sharper, fiercer edge to the emotional undercurrent of the week. Lilith speaks to the untamed, uncompromising part of us— the part that refuses distortion, silence, or self-betrayal. When she meets Satevis, the energy can become intense, passionate, truth-revealing, and confrontational in the best and most challenging ways. Satevis is often associated with courage, conviction, and the need to channel powerful instincts wisely.

This can feel like a week of deep psychic honesty:
Were are you being asked to stand in your truth more boldly?
Where have you outgrown appeasement, spiritual bypassing, or emotional self-abandonment?
What inner fire is asking to be reclaimed?

With the opposition to Tishtar, there may be a tension between raw instinct and the need for clear direction, integrity, or discernment. So the invitation is not just to feel intensely, but to let that intensity become clarifying rather than destructive.

And because all of this is building one week before the New Moon in Pisces, there is a sense that something old is surfacing to be released before the next lunar cycle begins. Pisces softens the edges, but Lilith and those ancient stars won't let us hide from what is real.

And as we move through the astrology of this moment, it’s crucial to acknowledge the collective grief, worry and rage many people are holding right now as the atrocities around the world continue to unfold. As many of you know, this is deeply personal for me as my family and loved ones are currently in Iran. But my heart beats for the entire region going through the worst turbulence.

If you’re feeling heavy, heartbroken, or overwhelmed by what’s happening in the world, that response is not weakness. It speaks to your humanity.

This approaching Pisces New Moon reminds us that compassion is a form of awareness. It is the refusal to let suffering become invisible.

So if there is anything to hold onto this week, it may simply be this:
that even in times when the world feels fractured, the quiet acts of care, prayer, witnessing, and empathy we offer still matter. They matter a whole lot.

We may not be able to change the tides overnight. But we can choose, moment by moment, not to let our hearts close. To not become numb. To not give up on caring.

This is not a small thing. It's not a small thing at all.
